The ‘green-minded’ multi-storey car park for Marks & Spencer, Cheshire Oaks, was submitted to the awards by Jeff Jones, business development manager of Radflex Contact Services.

This project received a BREEAM excellent rating for its construction and is considered Marks & Spencer’s biggest greenest branch. It is to date the largest store with green credentials they have built (with more to follow) and the second largest store in their portfolio.

The 950 space car park is connected to the store. Permanite Mastic Asphalt was chosen as the waterproofing membrane as it offers a carbon neutral rating, with Radflex movement joints providing the best linkage available to supprt the performance of the asphalt.  The parking areas are permeable to allow for water harvesting, it has green walls to its south facing elevation to encourage wildlife diversity, and bird boxes are to be found in various areas of the site.

The car park also provides electric car charging points, and the lighting supplied is LED. Cycle users parking is provided for visitors to the store.
10mm Permapark Roofing Grade and 25mm Permapark Paving Grade was installed on the project.

Permapark is a specially formulated mastic asphalt waterproofing and surfacing system for elevated vehicle decks, using advanced polymer technology to give the ideal combination, of long term durability, increased fatigue resistance, improved temperature stability and ease of installation.
